Singapore Zoo

On the day that we're scheduled to visit Singapore Zoo, it rained so heavily. We stayed indoors and have a slow and heavy breakfast. See the children finally enjoy ice-cream at the buffet breakfast at Marriot Hotel since this is the last day we'll be having breakfast at the hotel. They love the ice-cream, in fact, they love any ice-cream and just waiting for us to say yes :)

After waiting a couple hours and watching cartoon in the hotel room, looks like the rain is subsiding. We took a taxi from the hotel, it costs just S$22 for the 4 of us. Better than stand around waiting for bus :P

We asked about the boat ride as you can buy tickets including train ride and boat ride and it's more economical as a package. However with the rain, the staff say no boat ride until the rain stops. She told us better to buy the ticket inside even though more expensive but at least we don't burn the $$ in case it continues raining. We got raincoats for the children, $5 per raincoat, and only 1 kid-size. Just outside the ticketing counter here, even though covered roof but the children already put on their raincoat.

Right inside the gate, the photo looks dark as it is still raining...

With the red bus, this is really cute haha

Otter den is near the entrance

They are looking for this seal all over the place. But I don't think they have it.

Only found some penguins here.

Singapore Zoo had changed quite a bit since I last visited long time ago. Now it's open concept, almost like Taiping Zoo in a much bigger scale. Animals are no longer in glass cages like on display. However since the place is too huge, we take the tram most of the time. As we started there around 1pm, we went for quick lunch after tram ride and visiting a few places.

This is Ah Meng's Restaurant. Ah Meng is their signature mascot, an orang utan. The food is so-so, we ordered one kid's meal which comes with Singapore Zoo lunch box.

Even though it's raining, perhaps due to Malaysia and Singapore school holidays there is still a crowd. After lunch, we went for Rainforest Fights Back Show at 2:30pm. While I was waiting, 姐姐 and 弟弟 went with 爸爸 to toilet and wanted to feed a Manatee. However 爸爸 afraid might miss the show as another family is feeding while one more family waiting, so they decided to wait until after the show. Rainforest Fight Back showcases quite a lot of animals - small and tamer ones la, so even though we didn't make it to visit most of the places we still see the animals make an appearance here.

After the Rainforest Fights Back, we went back to Manatee feeding place, but the keeper already gone. So we just walk around and went for the next show, which is Elephants at Work and Play show at 3:30pm. There are already many ppl there and we just manage to squeeze in, standing row at top center. Quite strategic actually, see how the two of them holding each other while watching :) The location of Elephants of Asia is quite nice, with the wooden huts and bridges leading to the huts, very exotic looking. In fact, the oldest elephant is from Malaysia. Right at the end of the show, the elephants are given food as part of the show, and lastly, they poo'ed and wee-wee.... 姐姐 and 弟弟 laugh as they never saw elephant poo and wee before. Actually I hadn't either :P

After that, we're suppose to go for Animal Friends Show at Kidzworld. But it's very far away on foot, we gave up after walking ~5 mins and we realize we'd never make the 4pm show. In fact we could hear the show already starting and we're still miles from the place. So we wondered around, and went to see other animals.

White tigers... exotic and didn't see before. Looks like our 虎虎 at home

Most anticipated show by the children, Splash Safari as the star is a Sea Lion. We are seated at 2nd row at Splash Zone because the children wanted to be splashed by the sea lion. We had raincoats ready to protect ourselves in case it gets too wet. Towards the end of the show, and we weren't wet, so 弟弟 stood up while the sea lion does his last round of splashing. He enjoyed getting splash and see his shorts wet....

Then last tram ride, and it's already near 5:30pm, closing time. While waiting, 弟弟 accidentally pushed 姐姐 and she fell and scraped her knee. We walked back to the exit/entrance. On the way, we saw a portion of the zoo area which is to be the new River Safari. It's going to open 2012, and I heard from the staff their polar bear will be moved there. I was wondering where is the polar bear as I wanted the children to see him. Well... too bad... unless we come back again for River Safari.

We have a quick tea break of pizza at Pizzafari, as the pizza smelt too good to pass up. 姐姐 chose a mushroom pizza for us, it taste good! I'm sure the other varieties taste as good too. Here they are goofing after pizza.

Dinner at Din Tai Fung near hotel. The 小笼包 is superlicious... even better than Dragon-i in my opinion. The other food are good too. We ordered fried rice, beef noodles, 千层糕, 红豆包.

After going back to hotel, 姐姐 was very quiet and slept and didn't even watch cartoon. 弟弟 watch for a while and slept. Just a while after lights out, suddenly 姐姐 vomit out her dinner. She didn't tell us she's not feeling well and just vomit in her sleep. After cleaning her up, she went back to sleep. Since the bed is dirtied, we had to get Marriot staff to help with clean-up. Luckily housekeeping staff is still able to help even though it's late at night and was very quick and quiet. Both children didn't even know the housekeeping staff is changing the bedspread. My my... 5-star hotel bed really difficult to make up. There are layers of mattress protector and stuff, no wonder the bed is so comfy :) Lucky for us, she's ok throughout the night and the next day. Perhaps ate too much, pizza then the heavy dinner. Must not let her overeat next time....
