Baby Orange Month 14 - Chickenpox vaccine!

Baby Orange progressed more this month, the babbling is clearer. He can say Papa, Mama, and something that sounds like ball ball (which I had been trying to teach him) or Por Por (which porpor had been trying to teach, haha). But he can't really say ger ger or che che yet, so he just "aahhh!!!" at them whenever he wants their attention :)

He got flu again, but recovered after 2-3 days of flu medication. Poor boy, lagi lose weight....appetite quite poor during the week having flu.

The chickenpox vaccine that he was given - sigh.... first he got fever, so we gave him PCM. Then when he recovered from fever, he got rashes pula. Those rashes started from his forehead/behind ears (day 1) until his body and arms (day 2), and even his legs (by day 3). The older children didn't get such symptoms before so we were quite worried. The paediatrician says fever is normal, and even rashes is normal and will clear in about a week. Some children might get such reaction, that's what he said. Poor Baby Orange, the children felt so sorry for him. They keep telling us, mama, papa, Orange is having spots! He is so spotty! Aiyo, as if we cannot see.....

It was after getting chickenpox vaccine that he had such reaction.

Water Supply Interruption and Baby Orange Got The Flu - Baby Orange Month 7 Update

It was tiring month 7 for us and Baby Orange as he had flu and cough, and we had water supply interruption at our apartment.

Baby Orange recovering from flu. Difficulty in taking medication. Throw up medicine, cry indefinitely. Good for 2 days, then use tongue to block medicine syringe, then spit out. Had a sinus gas thingy by 2nd visit to paed. 3/12 Given a spray, and recovering upon using the spray.

Last weight = 7.0 kg

gas treatment for baby, recovering from flu
Baby Orange given some gas treatment to help with the throat (or something like that).
Cried non-stop during treatment until too tired and fell asleep.

Wasn't feeding well especially during medication period. Didn't want bottle and didn't want latch on. Pull off breast only after a few sucks. Have to coax and carry in arm almost whole night. Coax, latch, unlatch. Coax, latch, unlatch. Body temperature higher when refusing feed and water.

Oh no! Got my period after so long when Baby Orange is about 7 months. I felt serious cramping whenever I direct latch on Baby Orange for breastfeeding, and even pumping.

Major water supply interruption the 3rd week of Nov after doctor's visit. Luckily Papa is around, he and 哥哥 carried buckets of water from the PBA truck assigned to service our apartment. With the PBA truck here, that means PBA is already working on the issue. It's a wonder no one from the apartment management noticed, as the water tank had run dry before it was noticed.

The two older children had cold baths, as there weren't water from the tap to use the water heater shower. On the first day of water supply interruption, the two children refilled their water bottles at school. Papa bought big bottles of drinking water from Tesco for us. We filled up the thermal with drinking water, and use that mixed with drinking water to wash Baby Orange's bottles, pacifier and medicine syringe. As a breastfeeding mom, I really need to have clean water supply to clean the pump, milk collection shells in addition to Baby Orange's stash.

It's so primitive and pathetic washing dishes with buckets of water. Laundry was piling up, stinky laundry too at that :( And poor Baby Orange, he didn't get to bathe for a couple of days. All while recovering from flu too. When Papa fed him the flu and cough medicine, usually some will dribble onto Baby Orange's clothes. Sometimes our clothes kena the sticky sweet medication too when he threw up the medicine.

We had always taught the children to appreciate getting clean water from our taps, so they learnt a major lesson about the importance of clean water supply. After the second day of no water supply, Papa keep calling PBA as the water they supply via truck could not be used as drinking water. He is fed up buying bottles of drinking water from Tesco :P Finally PBA agreed to look into this problem, and the solution as Papa's suggestion. They loaded water into our apartment water tank (I think it had a filter or something) and this indirectly restored water supply. The PBA guy manning the truck told Papa he refilled the water tank with 7 or 8 truckloads of water for the apartment dwellers. Only our apartment had water supply interruption for about 4 days. I told Papa if he wasn't around this time, he would definitely get an earful of noise from me if I had to do it all by myself, and with poor Baby Orange sick at that time too!

Baby Orange Month 6 Update

In fact, Baby Orange's paediatrician gave us the go-ahead to start solids such as apples, bananas and rice cereal for his 5 month visit. We only let him start to have a taste of apples and baby rice cereal from about 5 months 2 weeks.

I don't think this is cereal yet :)

Papa went around looking for plain rice cereal at nearby Tesco but couldn't find (much later only found it there). Hm... they had assorted rice with something example, rice with fruits, rice with veggies, rice with honey etc but not plain rice cereal. We went all the way to Sunshine Square to look for it. Luckily they have it in various sizes. We got the smallest pack there of 225g. There are two variants, one is just add water and one needs to add milk. Since we have our own formula milk, we decided to get the plainest one which is to add milk. We saw they have small tin formula milk of the brand we bought. The one we had is 900g from Tesco! This small tin size is much more appropriate size for trial especially for infant formula. Now you know preparation is very important prior to baby arriving. Don't end up like us, leave things to last minute and now we ended up with big tin of unfinished infant formula.

Baby Orange Month 5 Update

Baby Orange is 5 months old! He cried a bucket of tears when the paediatrician gave him his 6-in-1 immunization. Wow, amazing right, now we have 6-in-1 shots :P

Weighs 6.8 kg at the doctor's visit for month 5.

Still using Mamy Poko size S. A good friend had given us 2 packs of Mamy Poko diapers as her baby outgrew size S quickly. And with the pack that we bought, he is still using it at night. The fit is getting snug but we should be able to have him use it up without wasting. Our next pack is a size M. He is already on Huggies size M for some time as Huggies has a narrower cutting.

His poop is getting on well this month. We had started monitoring by drawing "bombs" on the family calendar to keep track.

We found some new baby clothes for him at Uniqlo. It's called Baby (Infant) Mesh Inner T-shirt, only RM9.90 for 3 in a pack. Soft and good for Baby Orange to wear at home during hot days. We chose the biggest size :P

breast milk storage @ 5 months
Milk storage in freezer, motivational photo for me as no longer pump so much by the time I back-date this post in Feb'15.

Breastfeeding goes on. He is now taking 2.5 to 3 oz of EBM whenever Porpor or Papa feed him with bottle. I'm still pumping about the same frequency. However sometimes he sleeps through the night, and if I didn't initiate feeding, he'd have gone more than 5 hours without a feed. Even though it's tiring, I wouldn't want him to go so long between feeds, so I would carry him over for his midnight feed. Not very good idea, because I think he got used to feeding at night so he got up very frequent even after 6 months. So don't learn from us :P

A happier Baby Orange having tummy time

He can flip over if he wanted to by now. However seems like sometimes he is kind of lazy, and he couldn't really work his arms out from being stuck yet. So he'd be making pathetic sounds when he's flipped over on his tummy. Sometimes we'd make him get some tummy time.

Smiling and lounging around at home :)

Oh, and he has big hands and feet, hoh?

He is dribbling a lot, but no teeth in sight yet. He also puts everything within grasp into his mouth. It's tiring trying to stop him.

He is playful and enjoys playing with Cherry and 哥哥.
