Sibling rivalry is part of growing up

姐姐 is getting better at her handwriting. It’s neat and nice for her age. Both 爸爸 and I are proud of her. She will ask us about spelling of certain words and write them everywhere – in the note books, on pieces of paper, on the drawing board. Here is an example of her work on the drawing board. She likes to write our names too.

Whenever we praised 姐姐, 弟弟 will not be very happy. So when I took a photo of 姐姐’s writing, 弟弟 wants me to take one of his arrangements on the piano bench. He’s getting to be a neat freak selectively – those he arranged cannot be touched but he can make a mess on the floor. **Argh** Same mannerism as 姐姐, only she now understand to clean up or we’d be upset. Terrible two’s are here for弟弟.

One day they are 水火不容, another day they are best friends. See them playing together.

Early Merdeka celebration

We went for early merdeka celebration. The children enjoy eating food they typically do not get – kuih-muih, watermelon, fried beehoon. There’s also orange syrup but because弟弟 is having flu we didn’t tempt them with it. For adults, we finish up the fried rice and curry chicken.

Each child got a balloon and a flag to wave.

弟弟: When is my turn, 姐姐?
弟弟: Finally Seal is mine!

弟弟: Waiting again?

By 9 something, there was a fireworks display even though on smaller scale than before. Luckily we are still in the area as we were leaving. 姐姐 stayed in the car to watch with me, 弟弟 is more adventurous and went out of the car to watch with 爸爸.

Seal's Adventure

We had a scare with the seal. 姐姐 said seal is missing on Friday evening. We can't find her everywhere. I thought we left her at the ballet class. 姐姐was quite sure she brought her home. But I blamed myself why I didn't check if seal is back or not. Nearly lodged a missing seal report.

See, 姐姐 still hold seal in ballet class this week. She is the one in pony tail this time, first girl on left with seal. I know, I know, the photos are a blur...just to prove it was there.

弟弟 was also quite concerned about our missing friend. He said, she went to playground to play and drive there by herself. We called the ballet school on Saturday morning ~10am but the clerk didn't see her. Then ~11am, 爸爸finally found her under one of the Ikea children stool. Alamak! And we worried throughout the nite for her.

Anyway, I asked 姐姐 if seal is missing, can we have another seal as replacement. She said no. :P She said no need to buy another seal, she is not replaceable. Fuyoh… already 长情 when so young.

However the clerk didn't even call back throughout the week. So seal is not going to ballet class anymore for fear of being really missing there :)

I think these photos were taken some time in 2008 when she was 4 yrs old with seal.

Teacher’s last day

Today is Ms Chin’s last day teaching me ballet. We didn’t know it’s her last day until the following week. Ms Chin gave all of us children a hand-made bookmark with her contact.

妈妈 got these photos from Ms Chin’s FB

Let's warm up our bodies with teacher

Play tidy our hair

游乐场

Not quite, but almost. We wanted to bring the children to Youth Park. After lunch, the sky turned dark. Oops.... as we're driving nearer, it started drizzling. The children were quite excited to be going to the park. However the drizzle became huge droplets as we're going to the car park. Oh gosh... ppl were running to their cars. Fortunately the children were quite understanding. But they were quite disappointed. So we end up going to Tesco.

Oh dear....

Ballet shoes

Finally 姐姐 got her ballet shoes that fit last week! She was so happy about it after getting them last week. See her wearing them for the first time. I notice she is quite serious, and while the other children were looking around she will hold her pose until teacher say to do another exercise. She is the girl in plaits.

Teacher guiding her skip across the room.

Every time I wanted to take her photo, she turned her body so I only got her back :P This Nokia cellphone camera reacts too slow when it comes to capturing action (cannot hiam because it's from work).

Her size, just for the sake of remembering her first pair of ballet shoes

Roseola

姐姐 recovered from the fever and cough she had last week. She vomited when she is taking medicine. Poor girl, no appetite, and vomit when smell the medicine :( She gave us quite a scare on HFM, as she started having spots on her hands, feet, elbow but no ulcers in her mouth or at the throat. We can't really distinguish from palms or soles as hers are pinkish :P Luckily confirmed not HFM when we bring her to doctor on Monday morning. Should be just the spots that she used to get after having fever. Think it's called Roseola. Doctor was a bit kiasu, and ordered the dengue fever check for 姐姐 as it’s the latest problem.

She was so worried about taking the blood test. Of course she had heard how 弟弟 was screaming when taking blood test in the nurse room when he was admitted. She keep asking 爸爸, “ 去哪里 check ?”如果是 dengue怎样啊” 爸爸 have to keep assure her that we will accompany her if she is tested positive. 爸爸 said she was very brave and didn’t cry when taking blood test. Phew, got the results in the afternoon and confirmed not dengue. What a relieve!

At the same time, 弟弟 also went for checkup with姐姐 and he had to continue with the medication further. So the whole kitchen cabinet was lined with medicine bottles for the children. It was really scary for us, and I’m so worried they will have side effects from taking so much medicine. We’ll have to “detoxify” their kidneys by giving more fruits and juice.

ToyRUs outing

Children are impressionable to say the least. When I tell them my favorite character is Optimus Prime, they also follow in my footstep. So 爸爸 take them to ToyRUs to pretend being Optimus. As usual, no buying :P We have too much toys and stuff in the house and I can't tolerate the mess they make.

The children try on kids' sunnies for fun.

Actually 姐姐 is recovering from fever and cough. She is still cheerful :)

Happy Birthday爸爸!

We got a birthday cake for爸爸, in his favorite chocolate flavour! This is a homemade cake done by an auntie recommended through word-of-mouth. It’s light and delicious, quite reasonably priced too.

弟弟 grinning before the cake cutting, the children loves birthday cakes and love to pretend party.
姐姐 played Happy Birthday on piano for 爸爸. He is very touched!
