弟弟's Kindy Graduation Concert 2013

It's the second time 弟弟 is graduating from kindy :P and this time at a different kindy compared to the previous years. It's only because he'd completed the Flip-TEC program and still have another year to go before Year 1, that we got him into this Smart program (which not smart at all from our experience).

Since they charge parents RM90 per person for those going as they supply buffet lunch, only 爸爸 is going. It's at G Hotel. Good thing we didn't all go, as the performance looks pretty boring to me compared to the efforts by his previous kindy.

Here is his first dance, it's an old Chinese song from the 90's. He's just sitting around and waving his arms. I really couldn't believe the teachers had forced him and his classmates to go 30 minutes early everyday for the past 2 months just to train them to sit around and wave arms.


The next one he had a part in is the graduation ceremony. He got a consolation prize for English storytelling and the graduation trophy (seems like prizes were distributed to all the kids). He told us the ambition is selected by teacher (he said he told teacher he wanted to be engineer but teacher say cannot use that, what!!!), they seem to not give the kids a chance to be themselves.


Last dance called "Sayang". Again more sitting around and waving. Some walking around the stage towards the end. 弟弟 didn't even swing much to the music at the latter part, even though some of his classmates did.

As for his kindy progress, seems like he is doing well. Throughout the year, there were stories in 3 languages that he had to present in class, BM pantun, English story and Mandarin story (I only video'ed the BM pantun as he is not willing to repeat the stories for us after he presented). We don't know if teacher does revision with them or how the tests/assessments were conducted. Again they were not given the books back to revise before exam. Anyway, this center tried to be advance to teach 6 years old the Year 1 syllabus for Maths and Science in Mandarin. However their teacher is not trained properly and she keep misleading the kids with wrong answers, even for test. How do we know? They took the questions directly from the workbook that 姐姐 used in school and she spotted the wrong answer right away :P I just pray they did not muddle up my boy's brains in the one year he spent here :(

弟弟's Kindy Mid-Term Review and Primary School Registration

There wasn't any parents-teacher day or meeting organized by this kindy. The teachers just pack the exam papers (the last one gave back 4 weeks after exam) and past term books for the kids and that's it. Their mid-year exam was done 1 week after school holidays and it was quite impromptu, 弟弟 said it was done in stages (later from the exam paper found they had oral tests for the 3 languages). Even during school holidays he did not get school books back to revise for the exam. So shall I say that he is not putting effort if he is not doing well? Or if he is doing well then it's the teachers doing wonders? So are they testing the kids or the teachers? I really don't know, maybe they did revision in class before (but he said he doesn't remember doing revision in class :P). He has changed 3 teachers for some subjects up to now.

弟弟's school acceptance letter

We got the school acceptance letter, 姐姐 brought back the letter from school. Children with siblings or cousins got their letters from the school office, while the others were mailed. No wonder 姐姐's time, ours was kind of missing.

Finally 弟弟 is going to primary school next year. So happy, we are lucky and don't have to appeal. It's been a long year :P Hopefully he will learn how to learn better in Year 1 since the school is a more conductive environment than the kindy!

Sakae Sushi Children Charaben Workshop

This year for 弟弟's kindy school trip, they went to Sakae Sushi Auto-City for Children Charaben Workshop. 弟弟 was so excited about it :)

He wanted to bring a food container along, in case he couldn't finish his meal and he wanted to share with 姐姐. He was back early and there was only a few kids left when I pick him up around 2:30pm. Looks like this year they gave a much later estimate when they'd be back.

He got a goodie bag with a small pack of Kewpie mayonnaise and discount voucher. So funny, I don't know why they give Kewpie mayonnaise. Not sure why he said it's a boring trip, yet he was the one asking to go. He didn't look like not enjoying it, his photos from school folder are with his big smile.

Brightening Lives Through Hygiene (A Partnership with Dettol)

Dettol team came to 弟弟's kindy for fun educational mini carnival themed "Healthier Today, Brighter Tomorrow". 弟弟 enjoyed the activities very much. It's a new way of marketing and promotion nowadays - take photos of the kids, post them on the official facebook page of the company and the parents will flock to the pages. Mission accomplished :)

Love To Life school concert 2012

Final year at kindy for 弟弟! He is graduating from kindy this year. He was very excited as they had been practising their dances for ~3 months. He's excited about his dances, he's excited about his costume with sparkling stuff, he's excited to be in a concert, he's excited to be getting a bear-bear, and it's one of the bigger milestones to be graduating :)

We were late getting out of the house as 爸爸 was late back with fast food dinner for us. 姐姐 has ballet class at the same time, and heard this year's concert is for 2 branches together so it's going to be longer than last time. As it's the final chance to get some photos we have to snap some before returning the graduation robe, just like 姐姐's time. We purposely wore the same clothes for the fun of it :D

Since I have to wait for 姐姐's ballet class to finish, we were nearly late. Somehow the emcee was also late due to traffic jam :P thus we were just in time for the opening. 爸爸 missed the group photo taken with teacher Kogi, he said he just stepped out and didn't realize they have photography session :(

The opening dance "Tarian Ritma Muhibbah" presented by the graduating class. Colourful costumes, fancy dance and co-ordination. It surprises me that 弟弟 can even do self-adjustment after their movement from one side of the stage to the other. Sometimes he looks towards us and smiled his playful smile of his.

Being in the graduating class, he got more chance for performance on stage. Last year at 5 years old class, he was just in one dance.

The second song he is performing is Zumba Waka-waka. This is one where it's funny like he was at the wrong place at the start and he sendiri made adjustment someway after the song started. When they are supposed to hold hands and jump together, his friend on the left side shook off his hands and jump out by himself. Hahaha.. :)

The last song he performed is Mandarin song "浪迹天涯". Music with very distinctive, strong beat. The children must have practised many many times until they can get into action automatically when the specific music is on as they paused for a while and started in the middle of the song. The other actions were done by the girls at the side.

弟弟's Sports Day 2012

This year 姐姐 and I didn't join 弟弟's Sports Day as we went for school trip. Photos taken with 爸爸's phone. Not bad ya.... I think he takes very good photos. Of course this being my own 吹水区, I have to say my boy looks cute :)

Probably concert also going to have both branches together. Another long wait! Luckily it's his last year at kindy already. It's nice to see him growing up and learning so many things.

Fliptec at Q Celebration of Learning 2012

This will be 弟弟's final year at his kindy. So the last Celebration of Learning mini concert for him. He was so excited to have a concert. He requested to have his hair styled spiky with gel :) No wonder, all his good friends in class all having spiky hair today, hahaha.

They sing Bubbly song for boys and Mandarin song 洗澡歌. The 6 years olds are the ones performing first. Last year, when he was in 5 years old class, his class performed last. As usual this year parents are all over the place trying to get their children's video and photos so it's very crowded. 姐姐 didn't want to have a photo and it's still very crowded in the hall for refreshment session, so no more photos :)

Just last week, they had Parent Teachers' Day and 弟弟 was given good feedback by his class teacher. Only his Mandarin teacher feedback that sometimes he was chatting to friend in class. Hm, have to enforce discipline to restrict chatting during lessons otherwise it will become a problem when going to primary school.

弟弟's new kindy syllabus for Maths and Science

弟弟 got some books back from his kindy on the new Maths and Science syllabus. In the past 姐姐 did not have much of a Science book from kindy, and the Maths syllabus only teaches numbers, addition, subtraction, ones and tens, and a little bit about days, months, time and basic shapes. Not much exposure to application of Maths like volume, fraction, length, weight, 2D and 3D shapes which she learnt in Year 1.

So glad that 弟弟 is learning with the new books. Hope he will have an easier time in Year 1 next time since he gets more exposure. The books are in 3 languages, English, BM and Mandarin, so I will read through with him the Mandarin portion as Teacher Kogi doesn't know Mandarin :)

More craft from school

These are some of the recent crafts the children had done at school.

Both craft are done by using toilet roll, haha. Penguin is done by Teacher Annie Tang as gift for the Beamind Mandarin class children. The puppet is done by 姐姐 during Dunia Seni class. She use colour paper to wrap around it and cut out its hair, nose and mouth. Eyes are given by teacher to stick on.

He likes the penguin very much.

Octopus is craft done at 姐姐's Dunia Seni class (it's new name for art class at primary school). Its made using paper bag and stuffed with newspaper scraps, then the eyes are drawn and glued, and its mouth is drawn and tentacles are decorated.
