Old Master Q and Big Potato Meet and Greet session at Penfurnex 2012 and Sustagen 100% Nutritionland at Queensbay Mall

It's a long holiday weekend! We went to furniture fair at PISA called Penfurnex 2012 during the weekend. Not finding what we need, we went for lunch at Pizza Hut Sunshine Square, and also some shopping.

We hardly go to Sunshine Square since it's considered far from our home. Just because we're in the area, we drop by to check out the Cars counter. 弟弟 got new clothes and new pajamas. Too bad we forgot to take photo for him at the counter with Cars poster. 姐姐 discovered they have a counter selling Hello Kitty perfume. She has now become a Hello Kitty fan.

On Sunday, we went to Penfurnex again for Old Master Q (老夫子) children's colouring contest. This time 弟弟 and 姐姐 are in different age groups. There is also Old Master Q and Big Potato performance. We missed Old Master Q during Mid-Autumn Festival as it was exam time. Good time to catch them here.

For his age group, 爸爸 told me later that the kids are supposed to add some doodles on the wall in the picture. 弟弟 said he already tried his best to draw something nice, seems like the end result still really look like doodles :P

姐姐 was with the other contestants in her group in another room. They are all veterans, so I told her just to draw whatever she likes and enjoy it. Since parents are not allowed inside, I went looking for 爸爸 and didn't know 老夫子 and 大番薯 went to visit the children in the room too. She didn't have any photo taken as she said she didn't have a camera or a phone. She was too shy to ask mr photographer that went around with 老夫子 and 大番薯 to take her photo :P She said poor 大番薯 fell over one of the kids' table. His costume seems difficult to handle. Well they have showtime later so she still have chance to take photo with the characters.

Surprise for prize-giving, 弟弟  got one of the consolation prize. He's really happy since it's his first time getting such an encouragement :)

Then it's off to dinner. Before we go home, we saw this promotion at the central atrium called Sustagen 100% Nutritionland. Great fun for the kids! The games are about the food pyramid and balanced diet.

Sigh, have you seen anyone who likes to eat meat so much?

After getting all their stickers for the food pyramid, they go to health check station, which checks their height and weight. 弟弟 is 113cm tall, and weighs 20kg. 姐姐 is 127cm tall and weighs 24kg. Both are a little below average, as 弟弟 is 2.5 months to 6 years old, and 姐姐 is another 1 month short of being 8 years old.

Met Hapeebury and Cadbury Happiness Crew at Penang Perfect Livin 2012

Oh Hapeebury is sooo cute! Hapeebury is the mascot for Cadbury and the Happiness Crew visited Perfect Livin at Penang just as we are there. 弟弟 is so excited to see Hapeebury and nearly pushed him over,  luckily he didn't. Seems like the Happiness Crew is at PISA for only 30 minutes. For taking photo with Hapeebury, the children get extra chocolate samples hehehe.

The children joined colouring contest again. This time the organizer had them use colour pencils provided. They didn't do very well, the other kids turned out really good work :P Their reward for participating - chocolate bars when Hapeebury visited :)

As for the Perfect Livin fair, it's a surprise there are so many mattresses and beds that are displayed. And direct sales stuff like pots, pans, electric stoves. The stoves section are doing really hard-sell until we couldn't stop them talking. Inside they have all sorts of electric appliances. It was raining when we reached so there's not that many people as published in the newspaper, not much of a queue at all to register.

Somehow the children loved the sling bag we got at registration counter. Now it's the bag they drag around the house collecting toys and other stuff :P

Penang State's 55th Merdeka Parade and Celebration (2012)

All for the sake of an assignment from Mandarin teacher to write a piece of short essay (写话) on Merdeka parade and celebration in Penang :) We thought it'll be super crowded but it's a reasonable-sized crowd. We parked at a food court's carpark and they charge us RM3. Not too bad, it's just a short walk to Esplanade where the Merdeka celebration is to be held. Even though it's stated to start at 8:30am and we're a little late, we still had to wait for the parade to start.

While walking to the main stage where the activity is, we saw that all the marching teams were ready, I think they were there since early morning. The final ones queued from the MPPP building until the first teams around the roundabout. Wow, in the hot sun too. If our children join school band or school uniformed units later in secondary school, maybe they'd be part of the parade :P Long time away but who knows. We didn't see the VIPs like TYT or our CM, but it's ok, we're here for the parade :)

The school bands were good, can see their discipline, consistency and sincerity. They were much better than some of the agencies :P Of course the uniform units were good too, just no music :)

While 爸爸 take good shots of the children, I was standing on a plastic chair at one of the tents for guests snapping away. Unfortunately none of them turned out any good. Wasted my 1 hour plus of standing :(

Since it's almost 11am, we went for brunch, again at China House. This time we tried the breakfast menu. We had their big breakfast and omelette. Both were very good! The cheese bread that is served with big breakfast is really good, yum! The rest of the big breakfast is good too. The children had roast plum & blackberry cake, and blueberry tart. But the cafe latte I ordered seemed stronger than what I'm used to, and I didn't feel well after having brunch :(

The next day, we visited Book Xcess bookfair. The children attend the colouring contest there. The organizer provided 8-colour crayon and didn't allow the children to use their own. They were not used to the crayon given as its colour doesn't transfer well to paper, oops. But some other kids still manage to produce quite good results. Too bad 姐姐 and 弟弟 were not creative enough :P

On Sunday, there wasn't much activity planned. We had one surprise during dinner. Unexpectedly we got 2 free kids meal with our pizza meal at Pizza Hut. 姐姐 requested for the spaghetti carbonara and 弟弟 got the kid's pizza. Well, he ate 2 pcs of it and hopped over to the new Super Pan Pizza with Cheese and Garlic Napoli Sauce.

Wizardbrush - computer class holiday camp

姐姐 is always very interested in computer class and also anything to do with art/drawing. When her computer class teacher told the children about the holiday camp they have for school holidays, 姐姐 bring back the notice and ask to attend this class - Wizardbrush. We paid RM65 for her to attend at her school.

She spent 3 days for this holiday camp, each session is 2 hours. She enjoyed the class and liked the pictures she drew in class. The yellow flowers, the river scene look so mature. The angry bird and little yellow chick are so cute.

She also got a little souvenir and attendance certificate (all the children who went got it). But she said she wanted to join the holiday camp because she likes drawing and computer. Of course, the teacher allow them to play computer games when they finish their work for the day, and she look forward to that too :)

In fact she attended the previous holiday camp during 2011 year end holiday too. That was called Gold Wave and it's cut-and-mix sound clips. I do wonder if she still remember how to do the simple sound file editing, but she remember the 小礼物 and cert very well.

National Day

Children were requested to wear traditional costume on 8/30 to celebrate National Day. Didn't have time to take photo of them in the traditional wear.

They bring back these nifty craft from school. 姐姐 did the flag songkok, and 弟弟 did the kite. 姐姐 reminded me to take her photo, she likes seeing the blog about her and 弟弟 actually. 弟弟 was having a tantrum and didn't want his photo taken. He walked away just as I clicked on the camera thus can still see his hands and feet. (Actually I think he was just taking the chance to throw a tantrum. Both children had been sent to 罚站 at the balcony as they had been quarrelling since waking up this morning. He had been given a couple of smacks on his pet-pet as he destroyed a clip-on thingy on the balcony).


Finally around lunch time he agree to take a photo with 姐姐's songkok while he enjoys noodles with his favourite - prawns.

姐姐 bring back some art work from school. Not sure how teacher made the black whale, but there are decorations on its body that 姐姐 did with a toothpick. Colourful fish is scrunchy paper sticking on the fish cut-out.

There's been a mix-up with this year with 姐姐's Father's Day gift. It was lost.. So I didn't make a separate post about it so hope she didn't feel bad about it. Here's Mother's Days gift. Mom get a heart necklace.

爸爸's friend gave him a 满月 gift with 黄姜饭 and curry. I love the box very much and got it as my new treasure box. Now my drawings and knick-knacks go into the box.
