弟弟's First Visit To Dentist

弟弟 had informed us his front tooth is loose. By the time when it's almost school holidays, both of his front teeth are loose. He had bear with the loose teeth, and is still able to eat. However we knew it was getting painful and annoying for him. 爸爸 scheduled a dental appointment for him during school holidays. Actually the dentist said we can leave the teeth alone and let it fall off naturally. However 爸爸 said don't want to wait as the new teeth are erupting already. Not only he request to extract 弟弟's two front teeth, he requested the dentist to extract another lower incisor which was loose too. So in total, 弟弟 had 3 teeth extracted in one visit! Poor boy! He is brave, it must have hurt. But I wouldn't have wanted to extract so many in one visit :( 爸爸 only wanted to save making another trip to the dentist. Guys! Where got so heartless, 3 teeth you know :(

Only showing the cheerful photos as I felt giddy looking at some of them. Oh yes, tooth fairy gave him RM1 for each tooth under his pillow, so he got RM3.

Poor boy, still smile :)

弟弟's first permanent tooth!

This calls for an individual post for 弟弟. For getting his first permanent tooth and losing his first baby tooth at about 6 years 8 months of age :) Just a week after he told us of his shaky tooth, 爸爸 helped him remove that shaky tooth easily, right after he came back from business trip.
弟弟 after his first baby tooth removal. The new permanent tooth is already visible from this photo :)

There was no tears nor screams, what a brave boy! 爸爸 is already experienced in handling children's loose teeth, so it was handled promptly. 弟弟 was very cheeky after getting the annoying loose tooth removed. Hopefully the permanent tooth will grow properly in the location it's supposed to. Otherwise it's another child visiting the orthodontist in the family :P

At night, we went to Ric's Burger again. This time 爸爸 get to try the rice burger. The rest of us still preferred their cheeseburger :)
Rice burger at Ric's Burger, only available dinner time.

弟弟‘s kindy recently passed a memo to the kids about their year-end concert. Parents have to pay RM100 for the costume and event, which is fine with us. However the next part about serving buffet at the ballroom after the concert, paying RM90 per adult and RM50 for additional child attending is a real turn-off. This kindy is really all about money-making and sucks parents' blood dry. Previously the other kindy both kids attend only charge for costumes and event. In the end, we decided only 爸爸 will attend his graduation concert, 姐姐 might be having her Yamaha Grade 9 exam around the same time, so it's no use paying now and not get to attend later.

Oh this reminds me, they also had a memo saying they now have pre-standard 1 preparation for the kids. If they can't even teach 6 years old syllabus properly, why should we send our child to them for pre-standard 1. That's why I just added a ticker to the sidebar to celebrate 弟弟 finishing kindy. We'll be glad for him to leave this kindy behind!

i-City Shah Alam visit

My favourite photo at i-City

The next day it's meeting up and having fun with cousins. First stop is The Curve for IKEA. It's very crowded on weekend. Grabbing food is like war-zone, thanks to Uncle Michael and 大姑 for delicious lunch!

Santa and Santa-kids walkabout
A performance by Yang I-Deun and lady on saxaphone. Impressive! Santa walking around in the right photo :)
Left side is outside KidZania. That's all we saw of it, maybe next time.

We saw performance A Christmas Fairy Tale Musical while Ally and 大姑 went shopping. Very pretty and talented fairies.
A Christmas Fairy Tale Musical. Love the pretty costumes and fairies!

Christmas decorations at The Curve

The rest of the afternoon at 大姑's house and playing with cousins. Then Klang-style bak kut teh dinner, delicious!

At night, we went to i-City Shah Alam to check out the lights and Snowalk. It was drizzling, and the place became wet. The group felt the admission fees for Snowalk is too high, as it costs RM30 per child after 6pm. If before 6pm, it's only RM20. We heard the ticket only includes a winter jacket and you have to rent the boots. So the children and cousins went for rides instead.

My other favourite photo at i-City

The lighted structures, it only looked good on photo as the ground was wet :P

A kiddy train ride

SpaceWalk, fun but not able to get good photos as they were moving about so much.

More decorations for photos haha

The kids' favourite ride is Swing Chair.
Only 弟弟 not able to ride as he is still below the height requirement of 120cm.

姐姐 on Swing Chair, merry-go-round, bump car and a car ride

The car ride is funny as they're not suppose to bump into things. Both 姐姐 and 弟弟 keep bumping into stuff and 爸爸 had to 'rescue' them with the guy on duty. We thought it's difficult to control the car. Poor cousin Arissca was doing very well, until she almost bumped into a man sitting at a bench right at the end :D The rest of us laugh like mad over them. When 弟弟 took the ride for second time, only we realize he purposely bump into things and he can follow the track if he wants to.

It's 2am again when we reach our hotel. Every night the guard had to unlock the door for us :P

Last day is relaxed with no planned agenda. We hang out at 大姑's house and went to Setia City Mall's playground after a great lunch at Chinese restaurant. The children enjoyed it as it's a nice playground with interesting apparatus. However 姐姐 had an accident here. While she was trying to get on one of the swaying device with her cousins, she knocked her other loose tooth and it came off. Luckily 爸爸 brought gauze as her tooth is already loose.

Enjoying the spider web and playground apparatus
The only time our fave guy appear in photo for this trip, the guy who 拼命 took photos
Her poor tooth came off, but after the bleeding stopped, she went back to play

Reluctantly we had to say goodbye until we meet again the next time. It rained heavily along KL highway which caused slow traffic. We stopped at Ipoh for chicken rice but Lou Wong 老黄 and Onn Kee 安记 were closed (they are sold out of everything). Only choice left is 老梁 and we had the last half-portion of chicken left. Honestly I'm not a fan of soft 白斩鸡 so it makes no difference to me.

After 4 days away from home, it's bliss to be back to our own home where everyone's more relaxed, the traffic jam is still bearable and the crowd not as maddening :)

Top incisor pulled off by 爸爸 on her 2nd birthday celebration this year

爸爸 is like the "dentist" in the family. He pulled off 姐姐's top incisor which was loose. She couldn't bear the loose tooth anymore and requested to have it pulled out before 爸爸 even came back. It was bothering her and making it painful for her to eat. 爸爸 is back with the nice fruit cocktail cake she requested to cut with 大姑's family. She requested to get rid of the loose tooth immediately but we wanted her to take some photos before that. So she had to smile for the camera first.

See her tooth which had become crooked? She's a good girl and still smile for us.

After photos 爸爸 asked her to go to toilet to pull out her tooth. 弟弟 badly wanted to watch but we didn't allow him as didn't want him to be scared. She came out happy but we're not able to put her tooth under her pillow for Tooth Fairy since we'll be at Ah Kong's house.

姐姐's dental record
At night, she's happily cutting her cake with dear cousins :)

My fave photo of the day. 姐姐's tooth is gone :P

Had late lunch at Restoran Kolam Ikan Kulim just before they close. The 三味 fish and 油浸 patin fish is nice. However no photos again as the kids were too hungry. Maybe next time we will remember photos, and will try the 鱼片 and maybe the fish bone soup too (it was on the newspaper cuttings on the wall since they didn't give us any menu). The children got some rambutans from neighbour, as it's rambutan season, and all the neighbours with rambutan trees are blooming.
Putting up the name card as we didn't take any photo of the dishes at Restoran Kolam Ikan :D

When we're back home only Tooth Fairy came to give her the RM1 she always gets. The first night we're back, Tooth Fairy didn't come. She prayed hard for Tooth Fairy to visit, and she got her RM1 the following day. 弟弟 even said he saw the Tooth Fairy, she's white colour (hm.... I think he meant a white glow).

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth

Her other loose top incisor had been officially removed after dinner (again 爸爸 is the "dentist" in the house). She complaint of pain while eating and 爸爸 just pull it off gently as it's too loose. There's a little blood and now officially she doesn't have two front teeth. She didn't want to have ANY PHOTO taken of her as she is missing two front teeth now :) This Christmas song "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth" just spoke of her mood now.

Even though still sore from the missing tooth, she still take up my offer of a sundae cone. In the next morning, Tooth Fairy gave her RM1 for her tooth under her pillow. She was awake in the morning but she didn't realize how the RM1 got there. That's the magic of Tooth Fairy :D

This particular tooth caused some problem as there was gum inflammation a couple of months ago but was healed after we put on Medigel for her for a few days. Didn't manage to get a dentist appointment and since the inflammation got better before the appointment we just skipped it (Dr Tan is soooo busy).

Off with another lower incisor!

Oh, how brave our girl is! She didn't wince at all when this particular tooth became so loose that 爸爸 had to manually tug at it. There's a little blood and she maintained calm all the while. We can see the new permanent tooth is erupting and visible, unlike the upper incisor. Lucky it's after her birthday :0) Now, patiently awaiting for the next upper incisor to make its exit.

Being a little vain (which girl isn't?), she keep asking when her upper incisor will grow. It's also a little difficult to eat food as she's got 2 teeth gone -one on upper jaw, one on lower jaw - and one more loose tooth. Her solution for eating rice: She drizzle the rice with a lot of soup (she say "make her own porridge"). Tapi pizza, biscuits memang can eat no matter what.

In order to help her handle funny remarks from others, she is taught to say "That's my milk teeth and the permanent teeth will grow back".

Another milk tooth ~~

Yes, this is quite a detailed description of what happened to one of her milk tooth. Do not read on if you cannot stand blood and biological human stuff and your imagination will run wild :) Our princess had been bothered by initially one (upper incisor), then two (another upper incisor), then three milk teeth (the last lower incisor that's still baby tooth) which are getting loose. 爸爸 tried to pull out one of the loosest one (top right rabbit tooth) but she make so much noise and it's still not loose enough when he tried last week. It seems annoying to her that it's a bother when she's eating. It seems about time to drop too as her 2 front teeth are getting into funny position, as if something under the gums is pushing them apart at first, then together recently and leaving gaps with her other teeth. Kinda like a volcano waiting to erupt :P. Literaly. Found out tooth growth is also called eruption.

When we pick her up from school, the first thing she said is "My tooth came off at school!". Then came all our questions "Is it painful? Did it bleed? When it happened etc...". She passed me the tooth, and started telling her story. It happened during recess when she was eating her honey stars. She said the tooth came off and dropped to the floor. There was blood but she use tissue to dab on her gums and it eventually stopped bleeding. She told her class teacher after recess and teacher gave her a tissue to keep her tooth temporarily. Her friends shared stories about tooth fairy and the rewards they got when they put their tooth under pillow for tooth fairy. Before this she had told us one of her good friends got 10 cents. Today she told us another friend got RM1 and yet another one was RM10! How come the tooth fairy reward also affected by inflation? :) I had to tell her Tooth Fairy does not have that kind of money as there are millions of children all over the world and each child has 20 millk teeth to replace with permanent teeth. I didn't mention Tooth Fairy will be bankrupt otherwise it would invite more questions about what is bankrupt.

One of the boys in her class ZY who teased her a lot called her "bor geh" (which means no tooth in Hokkien). She said her other friends "yeeeee..." and "yeeeeerrr.." when her tooth came off but no one else made fun of her, thank goodness.

She's super cheeky and happy today. Not sure if it's because a load off her chest with the tooth gone, or is it due to the new sky blue leotard that fitted her better.

Tooth Fairy gave her RM1 in exchange for the tooth she put under her pillow. She showed me the RM1 this morning. When asked if she's happy, she shook her head, sulk a little and said "No, because my tooth is taken away!" She also said there is no fairy in this world and she keep asking who gave her the RM1 :)

So in memory of her teeth growth, here is her record so far. Picture originally from http://www.simplyteeth.com/., I added dates according to her case. It's a good site to refer for all things about teeth.

Tooth obsessed schoolgoer

That describes our princess' 心情 lately. She's having a loose tooth since some weeks ago (lower incisor B on the right side, see here for my reference of the names and position). She complaint of pain, can't eat much due to the pain. However we don't see the new permanent tooth coming up yet so didn't do anything about it. About a week ago, she say it's back to normal and she can eat again. 爸爸 told her to kinda push the tooth a little with her tongue to further loosen it. Previously, her two other lower incisors were taken out by Dr Tan the dentist and both times her new permanent teeth already pushing up.

After she came back from school, 爸爸 tried to use dental floss to tie around her loose tooth in his brutal attempt to yank it out. I heard her screaming from the kitchen. Later they say everything's ok. By the time she finish her shower, she showed me the tooth had come out! OMG.. 原来爸爸 folded a piece of tissue and shook the tooth instead after the dental floss trick failed. He distracted her by saying need to wipe off the blood caused by dental floss. Then he yanked out the tooth, he say very easy as it is already very loose. 姐姐 say it's not painful at all. No photo this time, takkan take photo of the loose tooth? :)

My poor girl.... mianhae, your mom dare not pursue these blood and gore stuff and have to pass this task to 爸爸. At least I don't go "yiiih.... yieah...." :P

First dental visit

We wonder what's wrong with 姐姐's tooth. The gap btw her teeth is getting wider and wider. She was complaining of pain and doesn't eat much. We just notice her new tooth is pushing out. So we took her to dentist to check as her baby tooth is getting loose.

The minute she hop on to the dentist chair she opened her mouth.

All done!

First Dental Check

We've started brushing teeth for 姐姐 when she is slightly over 2 years old. 弟弟 started earlier. He wanted to do everything that 姐姐 does including brush his teeth! However, both children have not had their teeth checked by a dentist at all. 姐姐 had repeated refused to visit a dentist with us, even though we specifically explained that doctor will just check. So when the offer of free dental checkup sponsored by Colgate came in the newspaper, we jumped at the chance to introduce the children to seeing dentist :)

We just have to fill in a form with the children's details and queue up. There were a few people in front of us. The children were very curious about what's happening. The dentist was rather surprised to see 弟弟. He said children so young do not really need to see a dentist. We told him it's a good opportunity for the children to learn about visiting dentist. Nevertheless, 弟弟 climbed on the seat and opened his mouth widely to be checked. When it's 姐姐's turn next, she was very co-operative too. Again no problem found luckily. Both children were given a pack of small toothpaste samples each. They were more excited about getting "present" than knowing they have good teeth.

At night, 弟弟 wanted to use the new sample. We tried to tell him it's not really children flavour, but he insisted. So 爸爸 let him smell and he still wanted to try. He was not against the minty feel and went through brushing as usual. We asked him, 还要用这个吗?He said, 不要了!Well, he's still more open to 'spicy' than 姐姐. She wanted her strawberry flavour toothpaste and won't try the new samples. Hahaha....
