Standard 1 Orientation Day

姐姐's Standard one Orientation Day! Take a photo of her in new school uniform as momento. See the pinafore is below her knees. But as this post is ~2 mths back-dated, the pinafore is now slightly above her knees. We just manage to get the memo from her ballet school to allow her to keep her hair, but must be kept in a bun for school.



弟弟 sneak into the class and we just take a photo with him at the desk 姐姐 just sat. She told us now she is sitting at different place.

Waiting at the school hall. Orientation started with introduction of all the teachers and speech by Principal.


In the class again. The children are given some exercises to do in class. Not sure if the other classes started doing work, but 姐姐's class started right away. They were given text books and work books during Orientation Day.

We like this school because it is considered near our home and have only 4 classes this year, less than 40 children in each class. Actually when we register we didn't know it's 4 classes, but it's a bonus. I cannot imagine sending the children to school with 10 classes~! There are actually schools with 10 classes for standard 1. Imagine the crowd at the canteen and after school jam. The school is quite organized, they hv time-table and whole year program schedule from the start. They also send notices to parents to inform about important stuff, such as replacement classes, special occasions, collection of school fees, special things to bring etc.

Fortunately this year is starting KSSR, new syllabus for Primary One kids. Seems like more comprehension and understanding is emphasized. We hope she love learning at her new school.

First hair saloon visit

姐姐 never wanted to let anyone to cut her hair. But as school is starting and she needs to be in a neat bun, so I bring her to nearby shop to cut. Actually the finished cut is almost the same as what we use to cut at home. The hairdresser never even help to make her fringe layered :P

Thank you Ms Tiffany

This is 姐姐's ballet teacher Ms Tiffany. We just got to know that it's her last day teaching the primary class girls after pre-primary exam. She is going to Australia to further her studies. Thank you Ms Tiffany for your patience and guidance!

New World Park visit

姐姐 and 弟弟's cousins fr KL is visiting, so we went for dinner at Starview @ New World Park. As it's near to Christmas, decorations everywhere.

Our 弟弟's fave friend is mouse.We also dunno why he likes it, no specific character but he likes all types of mouse. I've also forgotten when we took these photos.

Christmas event

We went for a public Christmas event. Turns out folks here really sapu all when going for free food := End up children just went to play at playground and we cabut as they did not like spicy beehoon or rice.

We take them for pizza and they had kiddy rides after late dinner.

Barbie - A Fashion Fairytale

We bring the children to QBM as yet to pick out 姐姐's school shoes. Also to check out the Barbie promotion/show. I watched it during weekday but it's really nothing that I think they would like.

JMC assessment

Submitted the registration for 姐姐 and paid $80 for exam fees. The class is going to have the assessment mid-Jan 2011. Teacher say to avoid Dec since many ppl travelling, and early Jan is when the standard 1 children start school.

The children have to play 3 songs, they can choose 2 songs, and one is compulsory - a new song teacher is teaching called "The Dove". 姐姐 choose "Marionette Dance" and "Falling Leaves". They also have to sing a song, and 姐姐 choose "A Special Telephone". She's starting to practise at home/in the car. Teacher don't encourage "Feeling Great Yea" because no one sing the echoing part, would make it difficult.

I'm stressed over her many activities and starting primary school!

Straits Quay

Penang's latest hip-and-happening place, Straits Quay. Even though the shops are not fully opened yet, we just go to check out as there is a Christmas CandyLand By The Sea on-going. We went during afternoon, so didn't manage to see the lights (another time perhaps). The building is very much E&O colonial style. Not sure if above the shops is hotel? Or apartment? There are fans at the corridor. Most of the shops opened are F&B outlets.

Birthday celebration

Children went to hv a buffet lunch with us to celebrate 姐姐's birthday (and they still eat free, might as well as they are small eaters).

Not sure what is their fascination with Komtar dome. Their teacher had been telling them to go visit. Since we're in the area. we bring the children to visit. There was an event going on, so we didn't get to sneak inside :) Komtar is quite in ruins, what a shame.


After lunch, it was raining. I still had to bring 姐姐 to Kimnovak to purchase her school uniform. Even with the rain, there are still ppl, luckily not really crowded. She had to try on 3 sizes, still the pinafore is only to her knee. Once uncle who is more senior staff there say should be ok, larger size will cause the top too "floppy". I should have let her try one more size bigger to have a longer pinafore, really regret. Well, 爸爸 wasn't around to give some opinion, so I just went ahead. We bought her size 26 pinafore, size 3 white blouse and size 24 shorts. The shorts is a bit long, will hv to let her try on with pinafore at home. I forgot how it was at primary school, do they allow wearing t-shirt and shorts for PE day, or have to change back to pinafore? We didn't get school shoes yet as still haven't receive the orientation notice from school. It's really difficult buying one by one, school bag, uniform, shoes, stationary. We'll have better planning next time, really amateur this time.

While waiting for us, 弟弟 had his picture taken with christmas tree. 姐姐 was jealous and sulking she didn't get to take one, and she said she saw it the moment we were at the lobby. Geez...
