Christmas 2012 and Back-To-School Preparations

Going around for Christmas decoration photos. All the malls are in Christmas mood :)

Santa's North Pole Express Musical Live Show at Gurney Plaza
Both of them seem not so familiar with the Christmas story.

They had fun playing games at the nearby playground. Even it's drizzling, they still wanted to play. 姐姐 won 3rd prize for jumping with balloon game.

Garfield and Friends Christmas Musical Live Show at Queensbay Mall
They seem to enjoy the Garfield more as he is a cartoon. 姐姐 purposely wear Garfield dress to take photo with Garfield and Friends. Some of the crowd must be disappointed as they only give out 20 passes for this last session of the day for meet and greet.

Kimnovak school uniform hunting
We're actually in town for school uniform. Even though other back-to-school counters at the malls were pretty quiet, the uniform shops along Jalan Magazine is bustling with activity. We got 姐姐 Kimnovak school uniform. Did you know Kimnovak 金露华 has facebook page? This time she'll be wearing size 28L pinafore, size 3.5 white shirt and size 25 school shorts. The L for pinafore is a slightly different cutting, it has a longer skirt. Compared to the size 29 that she tried, 28L is slimmer cut but longer skirt and suit her better. The size 29 is still slightly shorter than even 28L, too wide, and it looked sloppy on her. The staff at Kimnovak did not offer us the pinafore with L option. I commented to their staff at least 3 times that the pinafore is too short. But they just keep giving me bigger size. Until I asked them, didn't you have the longer and slimmer cut version that I heard about? Only then they bring out the 28L for 姐姐 to try. Maybe they didn't want to promote this version to the general public. Glad I persisted for a better fitting size.
Remember to ask for the L version of pinafore for slimmer and longer cut
Next on the list will be school shoes hunting for the spare pair since she will be in school almost everyday due to extra curricular activities.

Colourful Sunday at The WhiteAways Courtyard
This is organized by Penang Global Tourism in conjuction with Car Free Day. This is not a competition, just a fun activity for the kids. The children were given Christmas headband and cap for the Christmas theme, in addition to souvenir for participation. 姐姐 got a ticket to Adventure Zone for lucky draw, but 弟弟 didn't. How to go since ticket is so expensive?
The drawing is rather complicated thus the kids spent quite a bit of time on it

The finished colouring. They're actually wearing the Garfield t-shirt which says Merry Christmas.

After completing this activity, we went to have breakfast at China House. 姐姐 enter the drawing contest there and she drew Santa from her headband. 爸爸 didn't take photo of it as she rushed to drop it into the box. Well never mind, since there are so many nice entries she doesn't have much of a chance as her drawing is also a little messy.

The children received vouchers for free frozen yoghurt at Gurney Paragon. We went there one weekend to try it. They liked it very much, but too sourish for adults. We should have gotten some toppings added but the guy at the counter didn't tell us about such options.

We walked around Gurney Drive
We played tourist for a couple hours and tried the food at Gurney Drive, it is really bad, maybe catering for outstation tourists since most stuff like nasi lemak and pasembur we ordered were too sweet. Only rojak is nice. I think even food at the Sungai Pinang kopitiam is better. Pity the tourists eating there :P

Final Christmas-themed activity :) 姐姐 plays Deck The Halls while 弟弟 sing. She learnt the solfege in her JXC Book 2 lessons, and now she added the chords. That's why some parts are choppy :P

Dragon Boat Race at Teluk Bahang Dam, Hard Rock Cafe Penang and Seri Tanjung Pinang water fountain park

Today is cuti-cuti Penang right after 爸爸 reach home from his business trip :) Yeah, no mercy for him for leaving us at home while he's becoming a frequent flyer. Ok la, pity him also as he's tired from driving us to Malacca and KL. The day after reaching home he's scheduled to fly off and he was sick. Very funny story about how he missed his early morning flight. End up he had to fly to KL to catch a connecting flight to his connecting flight (Get it? PG-KL-BKK-TW instead of PG-BKK-TW).

We started off with Dragon Boat Race at Teluk Bahang Dam. It's a hot and sunny day but clouds are building up. This is the first time the children watch a dragon boat race. We left during the race teams' lunch time.

My favourite photo, beautiful scenary

One of the races, the dragon boats getting ready

爸爸 beria-ia want to bring us to Tropical Fruit Farm (he saw a banner years ago and had always wanted to go). We went around the way to Balik Pulau and saw many orchards. Finally reached this orchard-like place but no parking and left. Took some photos of the blooming durians, they were all over the place. It smelt of durian when we opened the car door. We stopped at Penang National Park. Seems like the hike is not suitable for children even though we wanted to go to beach there.
Balik Pulau durian hanging on the tree :)

It's lunch time, and 弟弟 had decided for us he wanted to go to Hard Rock Cafe. Wonder where has he heard of it before? We just ordered a fish-and-chips kid's meal, classic burger and barbeque chicken. So full! In fact, 姐姐 and I shared the burger. Even only with half a burger, I'm so full (and the burger looked small).

It rained in the afternoon, so we went home to rest. In the evening, we set out again for the new water fountain park that we missed the last time. We reached around 5:40pm and the water fountains had started spraying. It stopped around 6:30pm. The children say the water is so cold, probably due to the rain. They are the only ones in swimming gear, the rest are kids in t-shirts. 弟弟 didn't even want to take off his shirt as no one does. There's even a public restroom with shower stalls right by the guard hose. Mozzies start to attack when it got darker so we left for home.

i-City Shah Alam visit

My favourite photo at i-City

The next day it's meeting up and having fun with cousins. First stop is The Curve for IKEA. It's very crowded on weekend. Grabbing food is like war-zone, thanks to Uncle Michael and 大姑 for delicious lunch!

Santa and Santa-kids walkabout
A performance by Yang I-Deun and lady on saxaphone. Impressive! Santa walking around in the right photo :)
Left side is outside KidZania. That's all we saw of it, maybe next time.

We saw performance A Christmas Fairy Tale Musical while Ally and 大姑 went shopping. Very pretty and talented fairies.
A Christmas Fairy Tale Musical. Love the pretty costumes and fairies!

Christmas decorations at The Curve

The rest of the afternoon at 大姑's house and playing with cousins. Then Klang-style bak kut teh dinner, delicious!

At night, we went to i-City Shah Alam to check out the lights and Snowalk. It was drizzling, and the place became wet. The group felt the admission fees for Snowalk is too high, as it costs RM30 per child after 6pm. If before 6pm, it's only RM20. We heard the ticket only includes a winter jacket and you have to rent the boots. So the children and cousins went for rides instead.

My other favourite photo at i-City

The lighted structures, it only looked good on photo as the ground was wet :P

A kiddy train ride

SpaceWalk, fun but not able to get good photos as they were moving about so much.

More decorations for photos haha

The kids' favourite ride is Swing Chair.
Only 弟弟 not able to ride as he is still below the height requirement of 120cm.

姐姐 on Swing Chair, merry-go-round, bump car and a car ride

The car ride is funny as they're not suppose to bump into things. Both 姐姐 and 弟弟 keep bumping into stuff and 爸爸 had to 'rescue' them with the guy on duty. We thought it's difficult to control the car. Poor cousin Arissca was doing very well, until she almost bumped into a man sitting at a bench right at the end :D The rest of us laugh like mad over them. When 弟弟 took the ride for second time, only we realize he purposely bump into things and he can follow the track if he wants to.

It's 2am again when we reach our hotel. Every night the guard had to unlock the door for us :P

Last day is relaxed with no planned agenda. We hang out at 大姑's house and went to Setia City Mall's playground after a great lunch at Chinese restaurant. The children enjoyed it as it's a nice playground with interesting apparatus. However 姐姐 had an accident here. While she was trying to get on one of the swaying device with her cousins, she knocked her other loose tooth and it came off. Luckily 爸爸 brought gauze as her tooth is already loose.

Enjoying the spider web and playground apparatus
The only time our fave guy appear in photo for this trip, the guy who 拼命 took photos
Her poor tooth came off, but after the bleeding stopped, she went back to play

Reluctantly we had to say goodbye until we meet again the next time. It rained heavily along KL highway which caused slow traffic. We stopped at Ipoh for chicken rice but Lou Wong 老黄 and Onn Kee 安记 were closed (they are sold out of everything). Only choice left is 老梁 and we had the last half-portion of chicken left. Honestly I'm not a fan of soft 白斩鸡 so it makes no difference to me.

After 4 days away from home, it's bliss to be back to our own home where everyone's more relaxed, the traffic jam is still bearable and the crowd not as maddening :)
