I wasn't sure how was the primary school syllabus before this. But under KSSR, 姐姐 is asked to do more art/craft work than I ever remember I ever did with KBSR during my time. I still remember as I was under the first year of KBSR syllabus that time, and the memory of 汉语拼音 etched in my mind :o) She still haven't started 汉语拼音 yet. But she is learning more 诗歌 than our time. She can recite 游子吟 and 春晓.

Right before CNY, we had to help her with preparing scrapbook of 动物身体特色. Initially teacher asked the children to bring picture of animals to school, which 姐姐 forgot. During weekend she suddenly tell us hv homework, asked us to help her with scrapbook and hv to do exactly like the Dunia Sains dan Teknologi (DST) textbook. We cut out animals pictures from old magazines. Even though teacher say can use from newspaper but 姐姐 don't want as she say newspaper cuttings are dirty compared to magazine. After cutting out the animal pictures, we have to help her identify the differences of their body characteristics, group them, label them and stick them on color paper. After she bring to school, we ask her how is teacher comment on the homework? She say most children forgot to do, and teacher show her work to the other children. She is happy to be able to submit homework on time.

This weekend she have to collect 4 types of leaves for her DST workbook and make a bookmark using plants (they are learning about plants now). 爸爸 help her with it as I'm not good at craft. They use plant "parts" they found around the apartment/swimming pool/garden. Here is the finished book mark. 弟弟唔拾输, he also make one using paper that 姐姐 gave him :)

Celebration of Learning 2011

This year only 弟弟 attend Celebration of Learning. 姐姐 is in the audience. Many parents stand up to take video/photo of their children performing, so 姐姐 have to stand up too as she cannot see.


弟弟 queing up for his performance. His class is the last one :P There are three 5 year old class. 弟弟 sing "My Friend", recite rhyme "I Choose To Be Good" and Mandarin Song "白云".

After performance, the children hv some snacks. Sigh... they eat a lot of junk food like crackers, mamee, mimi... :P Luckily there are some kuih and jelly to fill up their stomach

MusicKids class party

After ~6 mths of MusicKids lesson, it's come to class party which is the last class. Today the children will show parents and family what they had learnt. Next week will be going on to JMC Book 1. MusicKids will be replaced with Music Wonderland. So the books will be changed. If 弟弟 didn't take this class, we would have to buy new books again. As it is, we still hv to purchase JMC Book 1 workbook as 姐姐's book already used. For class party, children march to "A Parade Is Coming to Town", sing "Please Shake Hands with Me", imitate instrument playing in "Concert in the forest" and play "Three Blind Mice" on keyboard. Still have not got the cert yet as it's not ready. After all the performance, it's time for gift exchange and sharing snacks. Wow ~ 弟弟 and 姐姐 really enjoyed getting so much snacks. At home when we open his gift fr gift exchange, he is also very happy as he got Faber Castell 24 crayons. He enjoyed the class party very much and promised to be good in class so that he can continue learning music. Hope he keep to his promise :)

Adventure Land and beach outing

We went to enjoy Sunday buffet brunch for my birthday celebration. The buffet comes with free entrance to Adventure Land which is just next door. That's one of the reason we chose this brunch, and also because it's just next to the beach. To play in Adventure Land, children have to wear long sleeve shirt and socks. We just let them slip on a jacket as we're going to the beach after this. 弟弟 was running around from the start inside Adventure Land. 姐姐 is cautious as usual and wanted us to accompany her.

Forgot to bring a proper camera. Iphone camera is not good for taking moving subjects. See the blurry image whenever the children moved.

Highlight of Adventure Land is the great big slides that even I find scary. The children have to climb up a flight of tall stairs to reach the top before sliding down. First time, he slid down without even using the protection mat. 爸爸 as usual did not keep a sharp enough eye on him that he manage to pull this stunt.. GGRRR... After a good scolding he promise to use the protection mat. As mentioned before, iphone camera is really no good with moving subjects.

After that is beach time. Children had fun playing with their beach toys. They did share this time. This side of the beach near the hotel doesn't have much people, there are lots of other folks a distance away.

Parent Teacher Day

弟弟's kindy having Parent Teacher Day every term. This is his first term in 5 year old class. Teacher Vicky's comment is that he is very manja :P I told her, he's baby of the family and also he is actually 1 year younger. Just that because we need to send him to daycare so he started 3 year old class when he is 2+. Teacher is surprised and said no wonder he is smaller size than the rest. But that she would want him to read more Bahasa reader, and practise more on the numbers, before, after and in between. So ok la.... have to encourage him more so that he don't lose interest to study next time. Teacher Vicky is going to pass the class to Teacher Jessie next month, so he will get new teacher. I will have to supervise his homework and coach him more at home.

Ballet pre-primary

姐姐 got her pre-primary results and cert today. She got distinction for it, hurray! Hehe... even though is most junior level, glad she put in effort and time to practise. Most of her class also got distinction.

Ah, her ballet shoes are getting tight and unable to stretch further. So we hv to order new ones since she likes going to ballet class.
